What is a factory reset?
Performing a factory reset, also known as a hard reset or master reset, will erase all personal data, modifications, and settings on your device, reverting it to its original factory state.
There are three primary methods to initiate a factory reset: through the Settings menu, utilizing the physical buttons on your device, or by employing the SmartThings Find service.
To execute a factory reset, you will be required to enter your PIN, password, or unlock pattern.
Additionally, it's crucial to ensure that your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network before initiating the factory reset process.
Soft vs Hard reset
A soft reset is performed by turning a device on and off again. This will close any open applications and clear the memory of the device. Long term hard drive data is unaffected.
A hard reset is performed by completely resetting a device to its factory settings. Performing this kind of reset will permanently erase all the data on the device.
