Can I use an Omerta Phone with a normal SIM?
The Omerta range of phones were originally designed to be used with standard network provided sim cards& this is still a feature we support. When used with a standard network provider users still benefit from a security hardened handset which provides a safe haven to store data, allows for fully encrypted voice& video calls, provides encrypted messaging, can shield you location from intrusive apps& allow for anonymous web browsing.
However the caveat is that these features must be used via the internet& not by using the phone service provided by your Network Provider. Our handsets cannot adjust how the phone network operates so when using a standard SIM you should be aware that the network provider is keeping records of your call& texts, can track you location by triangulation& you are at risk of being tapped via IMSI Catcher.
When using our handset with a standard network provider we recommend using Airplane mode with a VPNenabled if you require complete privacy. This way you can still communicate via Signal Private Messenger whilst not broadcasting details of your location or actions to nearby Cell Towers.
Ultimately it boils down to your needs and budget. Our handsets, when provided with an internet connection, deliver a secure& private communication platform. Users simply need to be aware that once connected to a standard network they lose some privacy& this may o may not be an acceptable trade off.
