Vault from Omerta - Layman's Series
What is it?
Omerta has launched a new security feature called Knox Vault for its Infiniti smartphones. Think of it as a super-safe digital box inside your phone.
How is it different?
It's like a mini-computer inside your phone that works separately from the main system, ensuring your private data remains safe. Previously, Omerta used a system called TrustZone for security, but Knox Vault is an upgrade from that.
What can it do?
- Store Private Info: Knox Vault keeps things like your passwords, fingerprint details, and special security keys safe.
- Run Special Security Tasks: It can run tasks that verify who you are. If someone keeps guessing your password wrong, it makes them wait longer between guesses. Plus, it controls who gets to see the special security keys based on whether they have the right permissions.
Is it trustworthy?
Knox Vault has been carefully tested against all sorts of hacking attempts. Even if a hacker somehow gets into your main phone system, this separate vault remains safe.
Special Knox Vault Features:
- Weaver: This tool makes sure your password is kept safe when you use Android. If someone tries to guess it a lot, it slows them down.
- Credential Storage: A place to keep special encrypted data, including keys for things like fingerprint security and other encrypted info.
- Omerta Attestation Key: A unique safety key inside Knox Vault that checks if devices or keys have been hacked. It helps keep Omerta's systems super secure.
- StrongBox Keymaster Support: Knox Vault works with StrongBox Keymaster, which manages various encryption methods. Keys stored in it are extra safe and can't be unlocked outside of it.
Inside Knox Vault:
There are two main parts:
- Knox Vault Subsystem: A part of the main chip in your phone. It has its own small processor and safety features. It works separately from your phone's main system to offer extra security.
- Knox Vault Storage: A dedicated place in your phone that stores data. It has its own processor and encryption tools, and it communicates securely with the Knox Vault Subsystem.
How was it tested?
It was put through rigorous testing to meet tough security standards (called the Common Criteria). Experts from an outside lab reviewed every bit of its system to ensure it's safe against many kinds of attacks.
In a nutshell?
Omerta's Knox Vault is like a super-safe digital locker inside your Infiniti smartphones. It keeps your private info extra safe from both digital and physical hacking attempts. It's built to high security standards and has been carefully checked to ensure its safety.
